FA 30 Mentorship

FA 30s–What are you looking for in a mentor?  Let me backtrack a little…

A while back, MAJ Brian Adamson–an FA 30 officer and the Ft. Leavenworth ROCKS chapter president–sent me this article–http://www.army.mil/article/77083/In the article, the Army Chief of Staff asks for mentorship help from ROCKS members.

So, we want to ask FA 30s–what are you looking for in a mentor?  What type of mentorship would you find most valuable?  Formal or informal?  Position specific?

Let us know!

Hi, again, studentx. Just want to let you know you have the option of requesting a mentor through the Army Career Tracker (https://actnow.army.mil). Let us know if you or anyone you know has taken advantage of this program.

I would love to see mentors that are position specific as I did in my basic branch, but since we are a functional area with lots of inconsistency on what are specific job is supposed to be, the topic almost seems moot. The best aspects of prior mentor-mentee relationships has been the informal relationship. Once you formalize a process, it quickly loses the desired qualities.
